Walasse Ting

Wallase Ting was born in Wuxi, China in 1929, but was raised in Shanghai where by his own account; he first began painting on sidewalks. In 1952 Ting moved to Paris where he lived as a poor struggling artist for six years but absorbing the city and for the first time being exposed to Western art, especially the Expressionist movement and the works of Picasso. He later formed close friendships with members of the CoBrA Group. Eight years later Ting emigrated to New York, where he became involved with pop artists and was influence by Abstract Expressionism.
Ting's works are a unique blend of bright, florescent colors and 19th century sensuality. Freshness, vitality and brilliant colour characterise Wallase Ting's depictions of women, flowers, birds and animals executed in a powerful and highly individualistic style. His seductive, magical world is one of sensory pleasure, appealing to all those who share his passion for the beauty of the natural world.
Concentrating briefly with abstract techniques, he soon adopted a representational manner with which he is continually expanding. Wallase Ting has had more than 60 solos exhibitions in major art galleries and museums around the world, including: New York, Paris, Zurich, Brussels, Amsterdam, Munich, Copenhagen, Vienna, Milan, Taipei, Tokyo, Singapore, Shanghai, and Hong Kong.
