poznámka:
For the first time ever, the exhibition Zdeněk Sklenář's China is showing a compilation of 300 original works by the major Czech painter, illustrator, printmaker and pedagogue Zdeněk Sklenář (1910-1986). The compilation includes a collection of 25 paintings that received the Gold Medal at the Biennale Internazionale d'Arte in Florence in 1971, legendary illustrations for Chinese literary classics, prints and his China diary. It reflects on the historical legacy left by Zdeněk Sklenář in his “Chinese period” works. In addition to his comprehensive study of Chinese art, Zdeněk Sklenář was inspired by his three-month stay in China in 1955, where he travelled as the head graphic artist for a travelling exhibition on Czechoslovak culture. Struck by China's beauty and the friendships he formed with the country's leading artists, he returned to his home country with enormous inspiration that he drew on until the end of his life. He departed for China interested; he returned home seized with an everlasting love for the country.

Professor Zdeněk Sklenář is a major independent figure in Czech 20th century art. His work is absolutely inimitable. He worked alone and never was a member of any art groups. The significance of Sklenář's oeuvre and its contribution to China was discovered by Professor Fan Di'an, Director of the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, who initiated this extensive presentation of Sklenář's works at NAMOC. The exhibition, held under the auspices of the Czech Ambassador Vítězslav Grepl, is the result of many years of collaboration between Zdeněk Sklenář Gallery in Prague and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the People's Republic of China; in 2005 they jointly presented Frantiřek Kupka's work at NAMOC in an exhibition entitled “Man and Earth”. The exhibition opening will also mark the debut of the Chinese-Czech limited edition book The Songs of Ancient China, featuring illustrations by Zdeněk Sklenář and graphic layout by Shen Shaojun. For the exhibition Zdeněk Sklenář's China, a catalogue of the same name is being published and contains extensive illustrations, accompanying texts and a list of exhibits.

The exhibition was prepared by the NAMOC Director Fan Di'an and gallery owner Zdeněk Sklenář in collaboration with the art historian Ivo Binder. Visual artist Federico Díaz is the author of the architectural design for the exhibition.

The exhibition partners are Vítkovice Machinery Group and Inova GmbH.
